1964 EPIPHONE CENTURY VINTAGE ELECTRIC GUITAR by GIBSON Picture(s) and Description:

1964

DescriptionPhotos About Terms & Conditions FAQ Contact --> 1964 Epiphone Century! Rare Epi-version of an ES-125,Excellent Example, No Reserve! For your consideration is this vintage 1964 Epiphone Century E422T electric hollowbody guitar. First manufactured in the 1930s, pre-Gibson/CMI, discontinued in the mid 50s, then re-introduced in 1959, the Epiphone Century enjoys a storied history, and is a close equivalent to the popular and collectible Gibson ES-125T. What's more, according to Gibson shipping totals only 128 of these were produced in 1964, and only 2228 from 1959-69 making this a rather rare guitar. Features of the Century include: a full maple body construction with a beautiful shaded blood red stained cherry finish, a mahogany neck with a rosewood fingerboard and pearl dot inlays, (1) dog-ear P-90 single-coil pickup, master volume and tone control, tune-o-matic bridge, trapeze tailpiece, Kluson Deluxe tuning machines, and a 3-ply w/b/w guard. More interesting than a normal ES-125, the unique color and shape of the Century enhances the Gibson-made ES-125T style, and elevates the overall aesthetic to a truly exceptional appearance. Similar examples have sold for nearly $2,000.00, so take advantage of our No Reserve auction with cheap Worldwide Shipping, and get this one for much less! The dimensions, which will be listed below, are shared with more traditional and more vintage archtop guitars. (Note: the skinny waist and the more pronounced Coke-bottle shape profile.) This guitar has a 25 1/2" scale length, measures 16 3/8" wide at the lower bout, and 1 7/8" deep. Since the guitar was made in '64, it features the pre-'65 nut width of 1 9/16". The slim taper nature of the profile is very comfortable, and the factory large frets enable effortless playability. The guitar plays and sounds great. Although the guitar plays easily, the action is a little high, and the bridge will have to be sanded down to accommodate for such, however, we could perform this if requested. The neck angle is good, and the neck is perfectly straight. The frets are also in very excellent shape, exhibiting minimal wear on the first fret only. This particular example, serial number 208661 (stamped on both the headstock and the label), is in perfect working and playing condition, and very excellent, original vintage cosmetic condition, showing only few signs of wear or use. There is some light scratching and belt buckle style wear present on the back consistent with buckle-rash, as well as, a few very light dings on the sides of the body. The neck also has a few light dings on the back side, however none are deep or large enough to be a distraction while playing, nor an unexpected eyesore. The top back side of the headstock is home to the most distracting cosmetic flaw: some pretty substantial wear through the finish, and into the wood. That all being said, this is truly a stunning example both playing-wise and visually, and would make a handsome addition to the arsenals of players, studios or collectors alike. The original finish hasn't faded much, although it is slightly more vibrant on the back of the guitar. However, this might be the exception to the rule, where the slightly faded top is far more appealing than the color on the back. Surprsingly, there is no weather-checking on the guitar, and only the slightes hint of the beginnings of such on the sides. Be sure to examine our many photos in the gallery to your right, all of which are of the actual guitar.
