1980 GIBSON FLYING V-II! Near Mint 100% Original Condition w/Case! No Reserve, Free Shipping! ITEM: Normal 0 0 1 132 754 6 1 925 11.1280 0 0 0 For your consideration is this vintage 1980 Gibson Flying V-II electric guitar. This near mint, all original V, serial number 80700005, is in very amazing cosmetic condition and comes with the original case. This particular example is among the first batch to be made in 1980, and even 30 years later, this guitar looks as if it were made recently. Please take the time to read the detailed description below and enjoy our high quality photos. Remember that this No Reserve auction includes FREE Shipping anywhere within the Continental United States, and that he high bidder wins regardless of price! The Flying V-II was first introduced in mid-1979, and adorned the cover of the 1980 catalog (the first time a V had done so since 1958.) So short lived was this guitar that by 1981 it was gone! Many things separate the Flying V-II from the original V, but the most striking difference is obviously the Maple/Walnut laminate body and neck construction. Original V's were solid slab Korina or Mahogany, but this interesting model featured a laminated "scarfed" body and neck [this particular guitar being M/W/M/W/M (Maple/Walnut)]. The maple top versions tend to be more desirable than their darker and less-attractive walnut counterparts. This gorgeous guitar also features Gibson Boomerang pickups with gold mounts, a 5 piece Maple/Walnut neck with a 22-fret, dot-inlayed Ebony fingerboard and a 1 11/16" nut width, gold tuning machines, gold Tune-o-Matic bridge, and a gold v-shaped endplate. This particular example is in perfect working condition and excellent cosmetic condition. It is nice, light, and weighs 8 pounds and 4 ounces. The CTS pots do not scratch, the selector works perfectly, the action is nice and low, and the neck is straight as it can be. The guitar sounds great, and is a real pleasure to play. There is almost NO fret wear, and only very minimal evidence of such on the first two frets. There are a few very minor cosmetic flaws on the instrument, most notably wear on the boomerang V bridge endplate and other gold-plated parts. There is also very minor superficial instrument cable dents near the input jack (located on the inside of the treble side wing.) All photos are of the actual item. Also included in this auction is the original Gibson case which is in very good condition and functions perfectly. The case closes tight, all latches work, and the interior is flawless with zero stains or odors. Upon their release in 1980, the Gibson Flying V-II was the second most expensive solidbody in their line with a retail price of $1299. Given that they were only around for 1 year, are extremely rare, and highly collectible, the current value of this guitar is considerably more. Some dealers ask as much as $4,299.00 for similar examples. Take advantage of this No Reserve Auction with Free Shipping and own this rare, beautiful piece of Gibson History for a fraction of other dealers' prices!
