Custom Electric Cigar Box Guitar telecaster tele fender Picture(s) and Description:

*Hi there! You are looking at an auction for a custom and hand made electric cigar box guitar, that I have dubbed the Cigarster. I built this guitar last summer, and due to my ever increasing love of building guitars I now have too many, so this one must go. I will attempt to tell you what I used to build this guitar and how I went about building it. If I leave out a detail, please write me an email asking a question and I will post it on this auction page once I've answered you. The box used for the body is mostly Mahogany. Solid Mahogany sides with plywood top and bottom. the top layer of wood on the top is Mahogany. I'm not sure what the top layer of the bottom is. But it's nice looking. Where the bridge and neck both attach I added a solid Walnut board that runs the middle of the body from tail to neck joint. The walnut is about an inch thick and 4 inches wide. I also had to add a block of walnut to the bridge area so that there would be wood right under the top for the bridge to screw into. The walnut adds a lot of strength to the body, how it removed a lot of the acoustic properties of the body, so it;s not very load when not amplified. But who care? This is an electric after all. Plug her in. ha. I used a set of Fender "Original Vintage" Telecaster pickups. I believe they use Alnico 3 magnets and enamel wire. The bridge pickup has an output of around 8.2K and the neck pickups output is at around 7.8K. There are only two controls, Volume and a two-way slider switch that swaps the leads for the neck pickup giving the player the option of an out-of-phase sound. Similar to what you would find on a Mustang. The volume pot is 250k, but I forgot what brand pot I used, how I can tell you that it is solid shaft and the knob is held on with a set screw. The bridge is a Wilkenson brand tele bridge with compensated brass saddles. You may notice that the bridge saddle screws are a little short for a tele. That's because I had to use Strat screws to get the bridge to intonate properly. And it does intonate properly. However the close saddles does make it a little harder to load new string, but it's no big deal really, just takes an extra minute or so to swap strings. The neck used was from a Squire Bullet Strat. I used some fine grain sand paper to take down the finish a little on the back of the nec to simulate play wear and (more importantly) to create an easier playing neck. When I bought the neck it had stock Squire tuners, but they were crap, so I replaced them with the set that is on there now. They were pulled from an Ibanez. Though, I forget what model. It's is much more stable now. The guitar has been set up with 9's Ernie ball slinky strings. Now, that case. Aside from the fitting, handle, latches etc. The case was completely hand built by me. I used 1/4 Luann plywood to build the outside and inside panels and used 3/4 ply wood for the inside braces. The whole inside is covered by purple plush and the outside is covered in torn up newspaper and then it was polyurethaned. As you can see, I'm sure. I had to drill out a hole in the top to accommodate the toggle switch. When I build both half's of the case and sat the guitar in it to check how it fit, I found that the toggle hit. So, I after I stopped kicking myself for not checking sooner I decide to just drill a hole for the toggle to go into. The toggle doesn't stick out of the hole though. So that's good. Once it was finished I actually thought that the whole with toggle made the out side more interesting to look at. The outside shell of the case was build so that the top and bottom would hook into one another make the case, when closed, very secure. Now, for the case candy. With the guitar, the winner bider will receive a handmade glass bottle slide and thin leather strap. Both of which were also made by me. Like I said, I built this guitar about a year ago and all that time I've played it. So this isn't new. However it hasn't been abused. In fact I've babied it a little.
