Gibson 1948 +/- 1yr ES-125 – one owner, very original. Picture(s) and Description:

Gibson

Late 40's, probably 1948 +/- a year Gibson ES-125. No serial # - just inside es-125 stamp. Dates pretty well with non-adjusting poles on the P-90, tailpiece, 16 1/8" lower bout, and meshes nicely with when the owner would have purchased it. I got it from the son of the owner. Currently housed in a Gibson ES-125 case from the sixties that is in very nice shape. I have the original tan textured chipboard case (there is a pic) that is really falling apart - glad to pass that on for just the cost of shipping ($23). I replaced the original tailpiece with a very nice almost correct reproduction (has the commonly found diamond on the bar and should have 4 lines). Original taipiece (there is a pic) is included and is serviceable but the bracket sleeve has been welded and not real attractive - but works fine - just doesn't swivel much. Replaced the original tuners with the correct-look 3-in-line open, white button reproductions that are an exact fit and work great when the instruments will really be played. Original tuners (there is a pic) included - working fine but need to be re-buttoned (currently have some handmade wooden buttons the owner made when the original ones didn't survive). Everything else is all original. In the "tone" control knob, you can easily see a glob of some adhesive that he used to secure the knob better on the shaft - works fine and doesn't even look too bad - bought a replacement set but didn't bother - like to keep the originals. Frets took just a light dress to get them in fine shape - there was actually very little fret-wear and they appear to be all original. Guitar in overall very strong condition: original finish very good and still shining - fair amount of the more subtle checking throughout, but hardly any real scratches and dings. One area of "belt-rash" on the back, but not bad - pretty superficial and contained to not a large area. Headstock actually pretty nice - front and back. The sides on the upper bout on both sides of the heel area are dinged up a little and two small shallow gouges along neck - we haven't worked on any of these - but they're real correctable. Pickup, bridge, nut, binding, and pickguard all very fine. Acoustically sounds decent but we have nickel strings on it so it's giving up some acoustic performance to sound better plugged in. Playability very good. UPS Ground shipping $35. (faster available if needed). - and if you want the original case add $23. to cover its shipping.
