Mint – Taylor 714ce 714 ce Acoustic Guitar – No Reserve Picture(s) and Description:

Taylor Acoustic / Electric 714ce in Mint Condition I am the original owner of this very fine Taylor 714ce. I travelled around the country, on business, in 2002-2003. During those travels I was in the market for a new acoustic guitar and stopped at high end, independently owned guitar stores whenever possible. I tried guitars at Dusty Strings (Seattle), Fifth String Music (Sacramento), Rockit Music (Brea, CA), Madison Music (Madison, WI), Music Barn (Greensboro, NC), Podium Music (Minneapolis) and more. I occasionally stopped at Guitar Centers but those instruments didn’t speak to me (maybe I’m a guitar snob or maybe the Guitar Center environment is simply too “harsh”). I finally bought a 714ce at Tobias Music in Downers Grove, IL (suburb of Chicago) on 6/18/03. Tobias Music was a featured seller in Taylor’s Wood and Steel newsletter (in 2004?) …if you're ever in the area, Ken Tobias has a great little store that is packed with Taylor guitars. This guitar has been babied. There are no scratches or other blemishes on this guitar. Further, there are no scratches, scuffs or tears in the original hardshell case. I am a mechanical engineer (i.e. I'm detail-oriented / anal retentive) and I've followed Taylor use and care instructions to the "T". I have religiously used the Dampit instrument humidifier to get this guitar through dry Iowa winters (see link for "Using a Guitar Humidifier" pasted below). I follow Taylor guidelines for cleaning the guitar before every other string change (see link for "Video: How to clean your Taylor guitar" pasted below). I use Elixer light gauge strings with nanoweb and follow the Taylor method for restringing (see link for "Video: How to restring your Taylor guitar" and "Changing Strings the Taylor Way" pasted below). The Taylor Expression System was upgraded (for free) by Taylor factory technician, Jamie White, during a Taylor re-string / checkup workshop at Ground Zero Music in Indianola, Iowa on 8/17/06. I hadn't had any problems with the system but Jamie said that Taylor had made some improvements since the early versions of Expression Systems and that they were just being proactive. Jamie complimented me on the "smooth arch" that is representative of properly humidified guitars (again, see link for "Using a Guitar Humidifier" pasted below). With this guitar you are getting a “like new” Taylor 714ce (new ones go for $2800 online). Some people argue that tonewoods improve with age and use – something about how sound waves reflecting off of the tonewood surfaces, over time, improves tone. People will say that a guitar is “really coming into its time” or that it’s “finally starting to sound good”. I don’t know if I subscribe to that philosophy or not, but the tone of this 8-year-old guitar is as good, and perhaps better, than a brand new one. Included in the Auction: 2003 Taylor 714ce acoustic/electric guitar Taylor deluxe hardshell case with (2) original keys Brand new set of Elixer light gauge strings (installed on guitar) (2) Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA batteries Dampit instrument humidifier (a must have for dry environments) Original Taylor wrench for truss rod adjustments A spare Tusq saddle (Ken Tobias gave me a few, to make personal adjustments, if needed, when I bought the guitar) Literature (2003/2004 Taylor catalog, 2003 Taylor Expression System brochure, original warranty card with m/n and s/n, original receipt from Tobias Music) Note that tools for cleaning guitar – shown in Picture 11 – are NOT included with this auction Description of Pictures: I am not a professional photographer and it was hard to get pictures that didn't have too much glare or reflection on the glossy finish. As mentioned above, there are no scratches or other blemishes on the guitar. Any imperfections in pictures are either glare, reflections or dust (the macro feature on my point-and-shoot camera really amplifies otherwise imperceptible dust). Let me know if you want to see additional pictures or larger versions of the ones listed with this auction (note: all pictures that I’ve taken are approx. 1.5MB jpeg). Pictures 1 and 2 show the grand auditorium body (front and back) Pictures 3 and 4 show the rosette on this guitar. In my opinion, the interlocking Koa rosette is more attractive than the current abalone rosette and I wanted to show the intricate detail Picture 5 shows the “heel” of the neck. I selected this picture to highlight the precision detail of binding at the back of the guitar Picture 6 shows the ¼” instrument cable jack / end pin and battery compartment. The instrument takes (2) AA batteries and the compartment can be easily opened with your thumbnail. Pictures 7 and 8 show the headstock. I wanted to show that there are no scuffs or scratches on the top of the headstock (often found on used guitars). You can also see the Taylor guitar stringing method that I used and how neat and tidy it is. Pictures 9 and 10 show the Taylor deluxe hardshell case (front and back) Picture 11 shows tools used to clean and restring the guitar (see link for "Video: How to clean your Taylor guitar" pasted below). Picture 12 shows literature and Dampit humidifier that will be included with guitar (including: 2003/2004 Taylor catalog; 2003 Taylor Expression System brochure, original warranty card with m/n and s/n, original receipt from Tobias Music) Please contact me with any questions.
